Grande Wisteria Mural - Stage 2 - The sample work, sketches of wall & final sign off piece

Following on from stage 1 after the site visit and client had accepted the proposal, I had to provide the client and interior designers with large size sample pieces of artwork.

Thankfully the client had a vision to what they wanted the outcome to be which was a flamboyant and large scale wisteria. They wanted the bold blue and white blossoms which were to be the dominant flower colours. The birds to be present but not too many.

There was only a bit of to-ing and fro-ing with regards to the base colour for the walls. So we tried several samples pots of different colours. All the other colours the client loved and was happy with.

Deciding to only have one or two birds for each wall, most of the birds had been painted and approved at this stage. Diane always says that her preparation and sample work can be the most important. She wants the client to know exactly what they are going to get as much as is possible.

The lightest of the ground colours was selected. At first Diane was unsure if it would blend too  much with the white blossoms but in the end, the light of the room proved the opposite.

Diane then provided several painted sketches to give the client something to visualise. The samples looked so big in the studio that they needed to be imagined in the huge space that they were intended for.

The next stage for approval was working sketches of each of the walls. All walls were to be different apart from the 4 walls of the dome area on the second floor. These were only guides and not exact motif templates as the design was to be free hand especially in the areas of the columns and ceilings which undulate. However all the sketches were scaled by the square metre and were intended as on site sketches for exact placement of the main motifs.

This was the final stage for client approval. the sign off piece. Diane selected an are where she would paint a full piece of the area selected.

Here is the piece with Diane, to give an idea of scale before it was sent to the client.

The panel with the sketch and placement

The piece in situ which the designers pinned to the wall for the client to see.

The clients were overjoyed....... so now the dates of the project needed to be agreed and firmed up. Diane also had to book accommodation to work away on site

Next stage to follow........ which will be the studio prep, templates, colour mixing before actually working on site.
